Recently, while walking Munich and seeing all the Christmas luster, I remembered a little incident from this summer, in July I think it happened. Since then, I have thought about it once in a while, but I was unable to really figure out the background of it. Maybe you’ll be able to help. If you have an idea what this was about, please let me know. Here we go:

It was in July, on a hot, steamy day in the middle of an anyway unusually hot summer. I was on my way to the grocer, slowly, lazily, watching people while passing by. Suddenly a movement in a doorway caught my eye. A woman was dragging a big plastic sack of things behind her, out the door, down the stairs. At first I did not recognize what it was she had in her sack. I slowed down, but did not want to stop and stare, hence I proceeded to buy milk and eggs and stuff. When I came back, she had finished. Two of those big sacks where piling on the pavement, both of them full of… Christmas baubles. Golden Christmas baubles, big ones. I was asking myself two things (minimum): First, who on earth had / needed so many Christmas baubles? I guessed there were a couple of hundreds of them. Second: Why did this woman want to get rid of them right now, in the middle of July? My imagination suggested a few possibilities: She was weak on decision-making and needed the time from January until July to decide to throw them away. Or she was early in decision making and planned to do all her Christmas decoration for the next Christmas feast in red or purple instead of gold. Or she had always hated Christmas anyway and used the business trip of her husband to lose the decorations by accident. Or, another option, she had won the lottery and decided to exchange the faux gold for real gold next season. But in reality – I still have no clue.

As I don’t have a picture of Christmas baubles, you get one of a nice shining star instead:
