This post is dedicated to my dear granny Hilde, who passed away a long time ago. R.i.p., my dear! Today is your 110th birthday and you can be sure we are thinking of you!
When I restructured my book shelf a while ago (check here for the respective post), I came across a heirloom which I had always treasured, even though I hadn’t ever used it. I found my granny’s old, torn baking book, with it’s loose pages, with dust and flour from eons of heavy use. Unfortunately I could not find out what year the book was from, but it was from a time where this kind of book cost 1,80 Mark – a currency which does not even exist anymore. My internet research says that it probably is from the 1950s.
With a bleeding heart, I parted with the book. I set it free to let somebody else enjoy it. By setting it free, I shared the spirit of Hilde’s unbeatably yummy lemon cake. It was a loaf cake, soaked with lemon frosting until it was heavy and soggy and soooooo good.
May the person who took the book home from the place I set it free enjoy it – my granny Hilde will look down from heaven and nod her head approvingly. Try the lemon cake!!!
P.S.: Here is proof that I am not the only one thinking of her. This afternoon, I got a mail from my mother who let us know that she had just baked Hilde’s famous apple cake today. You see – my granny’s baking is legendary.
