Today I visited a little church in the south of Germany. Watching the beautifully painted glass windows, I wandered among the wooden benches, until I reached the place where you can light a candle as a little sacrifice. I took one and lit it for a lost love.
With me was a woman, a stranger I had never met before. When she saw me sadly watching the flame, she bought a candle herself and lit it, saying: “I light this candle for you.” And she placed it side by side with mine.
And there they were, two little flames, burning side by side, for my lost love and for me.
