I was wondering what the ever apparent fern leaf was meant to symbolize. After a little while I realized it is about the NZ rugby team, who have the fern leaf as their symbol. Now even the coffee tastes a little bit like rubbing shoulders with an enemy in a good fight. Feel like a winner afterwards.
Driving “home” to Auckland on the second last day of my journey I listened to a farewell-2015-welcome-2016 show on the radio. the anchor man asked his interviewees – besides orher questions – about their opinion about the upcoming poll on whether NZ should change their flag. I was surprised to hear that, as I think NZ has one of the most beautiful flags in the world. And now they are discussion on whether to throw out the Union Jack and replace it by the Silver Fern and a black top left corner. The (national?) Rugby Team are the All Blacks, b.t.w. The kiwi love of their team goes as far as for instance naming a clinic for chiropractic and pysiology “All Backs” – with silver lettering on a black background.
Forgive me for not supporting the new, but if I was asked to vote on the matter, the silver fern would get a clear NO I’m afraid. Just for the flag. Other than that it is a beautiful symbol, no questions about it.
