I’m going to move house soon. I choose an appartment in downtown Frankfurt, not far away from my current one. With some differences.
The current place is facing a busy street with no trees, hence I have a noise level which visitors call “irritating”. Of course you get used to that after a while, but to be woke by a garbage truck each day at 7:30 am is not nice. And never got used to the banging and rattling. So, that is going to change when I move.
Yesterday, I worked in the new appartment, preparing my move. And I noticed that silence has a sound indeed. I am going to move into Frankfurt’s urban jungle:
- There is an elephant above me. At least something really big is stomping through the rooms.
- There is a flock of birds sitting opposite my new house. At least it sounds as if. Sometimes, the birds sing a birthday song and clink their glasses.
- There is a beehive across from my balcony. At least there is a humming sound wafting over.
So, this is the sound of silence…
